Het is 1 september, dus vroeg op. Laatste inspectie van de rugzak en dan brengt Erzja ons naar het busstation in Jávea. De bus brengt ons naar Valencia waar we een eindje moeten lopen naar het Estacion Norte om de trein naar Barcelona te nemen. We komen om 15:00 uur aan en we worden keurig naar ons appartementje gebracht. Enorm geklungel met de incheck automaat; het duizelt me van de toegangscodes. Maar goed, we zijn binnen. Het plan is om vanmiddag nog naar het startpunt van de Camino Catalán, de Iglesia Sant Jaume (Catalaans voor Sint Jacob), te lopen om daar ons eerste stempel te halen. De kerk heeft een imposante website maar de openingstijden zul je daar tevergeefs zoeken. De kerk is dicht als we daar om 16:50 uur arriveren. Maar…. een aardige Engelse pelgrim vertelt ons dat de kerk om 17:00 uur opengaat. En, voorwaar, dat gebeurt ook. Stempel gekregen en twee kaarsjes gebrand voor een ernstig zieke vriend. Ik hoop dat het helpt.
Dan weer onder bevel van sergeant-majoor Jan terug naar ons appartement lopen. Daarbij pakken we wel al een stukje Camino mee. Daar gaan we morgen verder.
Onderweg wat tapas, een korte siësta, een eenvoudig avondmaal en dan zit de dag er alweer op! Toch vandaag na bus en trein alweer zo’n 9 km gelopen.
English translation
It’s September 1st, so an early start. Final inspection of my backpack and then Erzja takes us to Jávea’s busstation to catch our bus to Valencia, where we walk to the nearby Estacion Norte. We take the train to Barcelona where we arrive at 2:50 pm. The pickup service brings us to our small apartment where we have to check in through an automatic check-in machine. Quite a hassle as we have to juggle with code and passwords; after a lot of clumsiness we manage to gain entrance. Our plan is to go to the starting point of the Camino Catalán, the Iglesia Sant Jaume (Catalan for Sint James) to get our first stamp. The church has an impressive website, but you will not succeed in detecting the opening hours. When we arrive at the church at 4:50 pm, the doors are firmly locked. A friendly English pilgrim assures us that the church will open at 5 pm. And, lo and behold, this is indeed the case!
We get our stamps and I light two candles for a seriously ill friend. I hope this helps.
At the order of drill sergeant Jan we then have to start walking back to our apartment but on the way we walk a small part of tomorrow’s first stage of the Camino. We take it from there tomorrow. Along the way some tapas, then a short siesta followed by a simple meal. This concludes the day. Still we walked almost 9 k today, after our bus and train travels.
